United States President Donald Trump has moved to strengthen the US relationship with Saudi Arabia and remove tariffs from Syria in his first major trip abroad since returning to the presidency. Mr Trump began his four-day visit to the Middle East with a trip to the Saudi capital Riyadh.

The 1948 Arab-Israeli conflict is a pivotal moment in the timeline of an ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. While the conflict then lasted less than a year, it led to the mass displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. At the same time, it marked the declaration of the state of Israel.

Markets in the US and Europe have rallied off the back of trade tensions easing between China and the US. On Wall Street, the S&P surged more than 3 per cent, while the Nasdaq catapulted 4.4 per cent higher.
