Labor's response to Israel's war in Gaza might come back to haunt them in this weekend's federal election. Many in Australia's Muslim and Arab communities say they intend to vote Labor out in favour of Independents or third parties such as the Greens. Some independents argue that Labor has long taken their community's support for granted.

While electoral enrolment is currently at an all-time high, voter turnout has been in decline since 2007. The 2022 election saw turnout drop to its lowest level since compulsory voting was introduced in 1925. And one area where voter participation is especially low is in remote communities.
