In her book Nine Pints, Rose George takes us on a journey with nine stories exploring the science of blood and our changing attitudes to blood in different cultures.  We produce 2,000,000 new red blood cells each second. The cells have a lot of work to do. They carry oxygen to organs and tissues. They carry nutrients, heat and hormones. Blood transports waste products and where necessary, clots to stop the flow.
